During WWII, [Baron Hanns] von Schertel and the shipbuilder Sachsenberg collaborated on the construction of a number of hydrofoil boats for the German Navy. In 1941 they launched the 17-ton VS-6, a mine-laying hydrofoil. It was 52.5 feet in length and was capable of speeds up to 47 knots. It was powered by two Hispano-Suiza gasoline engines of 1560 hp each.
