Description from Chuck Tilgner, July 2007
This is one of my favorite pictures of the Dennison tied up
in front of HMS Bounty at the Jakobsen Shipyard in Oyster Bay, NY. The Bounty
was built for the movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" which was made in the late
1950s. When the shooting in the Pacific was done it was sailed to the Atlantic and
docked for the winter at Jakobsen's. I think it was shown at the NY Worlds
Fair the following summer. The crew had been on it for a long time and it was
wonderful to see them sail it right in to Oyster Bay Harbor. Sailors were up
running around in the rigging just like old times. Anyway the photo is an
interesting contrast. |
