The company I work for has recently come into possesion of two Voskhod 2 hydrofoils. They are currently registered and docked in Canada. One of them was built in 1977 and the other in 1989. They have both been completely refurbished and overhauled in 1999 and are in excellent condition.

30’ CUSTOM HYDROFOIL RUNABOUT – VOLGA 70 converted in USA by Danish craftsman in 1989/90
Photos are available to interested parties upon request. I’d estimate speed potential well above 60 mph with the current setup. The boat is very light and I’m sure the gearing and prop could be optimized to move the boat a good deal faster. One bonus of the foils is very low resistance and the 454 sips fuel as a result. Details follow:
30’ Custom Hydrofoil Runabout
Hull: 30 ‘Aluminum aircraft construction with bulkhead forward and aft of cockpit. Triple step semi V-hull planes on forward foils at about 15 mph , aft foils fly at about 20 to 25 mph. Estimated top speed 65 mph + with very good fuel economy due to no hull resistance when foil borne.
Foils: Stainless Steel/Titanium twin Delta forward, twin ladder foils aft. All foils have vertical fin stabilizers and anti-cavitation endplates.
Mechanicals : 454 cu in LS – 6 V8, balanced and blueprinted, magnafluxed crankshaft, Edelbrock,Glenwood,Holley components, special cam, dry oil sump, 60 gal aluminum gas tank, Crusader 4500 series V-drive 1.3 :1 ratio, cupped Nibral propeller.
Deck: Varnished Honduras Mahogany covering boards and king plank, oiled Teak decking.
Hardware: Chrome plated bronze and stainless steel. Stainless spotlight, nice flag setup.
Interior: Varnished mahogany flats and dashboard, marine leather upholstery seats 5 adults.
Instruments etc: Stewart Warner analog, foot throttle, custom steering wheel and floor shifter.
Trailer: welded steel tandem axle. Foils support boat on trailer rails. Hoist or forklift launch recommended.
Boat is registered in New York State and spent its life on Lake George. Boat and motor have never seen salt water. It has a smooth ride in serious lake or river chop.
I am looking for a buyer who will appreciate the exclusive nature of this boat and the fine craftsmanship used throughout it’s construction. It can be delivered on its own trailer( included in price) or on a flatbed.
This boat is one of a few hulls brought over from Russia in the late 70’s through Florida. Boat was manufactured at Volga Hydrofoil Manufacturing Plant in St. Petersburg, USSR (at the time) and this style was used for inland river patrol. Allan Furth of Lake Tahoe casino fame owns one with a deep inboard outboard drive setup and I located another hull in British Columbia. This is the finest conversion by far and a real thrill to drive or ride in.

Both vessels have been delivered to the Caribbean region after the construction in 1995-96, registered under the Panamanian flag, passed the US Coast Guard examinations, and got the permit to operations in the Caribbean Sea at the US Virgin Islands area.
In 1997-98 the vessels were transported to the port of Toronto, Canada, where they were registered under the flag of Canada, passed Transport Canada examinations, and got the permit to operations on Lake Ontario, where they were in service mainly between Toronto and Niagara.

5. OTHER INFORMATION.
Both vessels are in working condition. The condition of hulls of the vessels, ship's systems, and engines are good. The provision with spare parts is high - 90%, including spare shafts, lifting devices, keel-blocks, etc. which allows to provide normal operation of the hydrofoils without purchasing additional spare-parts during the next 1-2 years.
There is a complete package of technical and operational documentation in Russian and English. The hydrofoils will be delivered together with repair manuals, which were developed by the shipyard according to special order of the shipowner.
In case of enblock sale, the hydrofoils will be delivered including 40’ container, which equipped as workshop for the purpose of miscellaneous jobbing.
In case required, owners can provide instructors for the purpose of crew training in respect of operations, maintenance and repairs.

It is not sold under that trade name, but the design appears to be identical. For those of you who haven't heard of this, it is a 30 pound frame with an 8 foot wide rear foil, handlebars, and a self adjusting front foil. You start from a dock, stand on the rear platform (much like the rear platform on a tricycle), and bounce up and down to propel it. You can't start from deep water (no floatation), and I've been told it is similar in to jogging for the energy it requires. It is capable of speeds over 15 mph. It has 2 moving parts, the steering, and the front foil/follower. It gets it's propulsion from a flapping motion of the rear foil as you bounce. More good news, the original Trampofoil (as I recall) sold for $1200, this one goes for $500, much more reasonable. You can find it online at http://www.hammacher.com/, just look under water toys. I'm ordering mine today (how can I resist?). Although in the long run mine will probably end up with a styrofoam hull, batteries, and a trolling motor. :)

Both vessels have been delivered to the Caribbean region after the
construction
in 1995-96, registered under the Panamanian flag, passed the US
Coast Guard
examinations, and got the permit to operations in the Caribbean Sea
at the US
Virgin Islands area. In 1997-98 the vessels were transported to
the port of
Toronto, Canada, where they were registered under the flag of
Canada, passed
Transport Canada examinations, and got the permit to operations on
Lake Ontario,
where they were in service mainly between Toronto and Niagara.
In April 2003 the vessels passed the Russian Maritime Register of
Shipping and
Transport Canada examinations before the 2003 navigational season.
At the present time the vessels are ashore.
3. SALE TERMS
The sale to be concluded on FAS Toronto (Canada) terms. Can arrange
delivery CIF Pusan. Price - negotiable.
4. DELIVERY TIME.
The vessels will be ready for delivery to the buyer within one
month.
You can see and inspect the vessels at the port of Toronto in
agreed terms.
No special repairs are required.
